Co-operative Community Idea
March 8, 2008
More urban egg co-op sustainability smarts on a community basis
by film maker, Rebecca Gerendasy, from the amazing
“CookingUpAStory” food films. Watch and see how the
community can make things happen, on a
co-operative basis, when people get together, and
everyone involved benefits with fresh eggs every day.

Extremely inspirational stuff - it’s great too see people out there who have the motivation and energy to “simplify” life again! Certainly a more pleasurable way to get your eggs than to hang out in supermarkets.

Absolutely agree, Claud. Just seeing these people’s satisfaction is enough to convince. I think you said the key word, “simplify”.

This is inspirational Monika. I so love chickens and gardening at home. I might just have to seek out a country property where I can do all of this. I looked in to renting while I was away during the summer and I might just have another look.

We’ve got a free range eggs place nearby (we live in Gippsland) and they have the most gorgeous eggs and you can see the chickens clucking about their property (sometimes even on the road - eeek) and, to make it even more lovely, they have an honour system when you buy the eggs! You’ve got to love it.

It’s just so cool to buy free range!

It is inspirational, Heather. Makes a lot of sense, that rich lifestyle. Claud, great to know this is happening near you. I was thrilled to hear it. Good reason to slow down in the car too. Sometimes we get ducklings roaming in the season with their mother around here, and that’s eek, too. I think we have to make room for these things in community. I agree, free range is kindness.

There is nothing tastier than an egg from a happy, free-ranging chicken.
